Chugoku (which means middle country) is home to the city of Hiroshima and one of the best gardens in Japan - Korakuen in Okayama, a must to see if you are in this region.

It is sparesly populated with lots of unspoilt countryside dotted with small towns that give you a glimpse of the old Japan.
